Durban, Afrique du Sud
13/07/2017 - 23/07/2017
January 2007 The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) is taking part in a collaborative event at the World Social Forum. DIFF, Zanzibar International Film Festival, Magic Lantern Film Festival (India) and Al- Kasaba International Film Festival, Palestine will present a selection of films on a theme @Culture, India (a network of Majlis, Magic Lantern Foundation, India, Point of View and independent artists) have conceptualised. This composite cultural input at the WSF will create a space for Africa-Asia interface. The programme will be broadly based on the metaphor of movement. The aim is to explore the cultural and political implications of movement and the lack of it across borders, nation-state, social identities and political formations. In this time when the global village is the much applauded market phenomena, people's physical movement in relation to space and its ownership has grown to be the nucleolus of political realities. Migration, refugee, diaspora, exile, trafficking, slavery, captivity, invasion etc. - each poses a myriad of questions and also exposes the current world order. The aim is to explore this phenomena to its various roots, implications, overlaps, alterations and also the resistance to it.
