Ana was born in Lisbon in 1953 and committed suicide in Brussels in 1993. Between these two dates, a lifetime goes by a potential portrait is sketched out. Between these two dates a woman sways between revolt and despair. The film, an initiation puzzle, confronts the trouble generated by absence through images and sounds. The film starts with the death of a woman, a friend. Ana was born in Lisbon. Pregnant, at the age of 16, she fled the dictatorship of Salazar. Marco, her son, was born in Brussels, a city where Ana obtained the status of political refugee and died in 1993. It is impossible to build a life on rotten foundations. Ana passed this observation on to me before killing herself, as if passing on a will. The film recounts my journey, physical and mental, during which, accompanied by Marco, I went take her life. What is left of life when memory takes over? The film raises questions and builds itself on the images and sounds these questions trigger.
