El Hadh Mamadouba Fofana was born in 1906 at Tanéné, a village in Guinea, West Africa. His father, his father's father and his great great grand-father were known as Karamokos, spiritual guides or leaders in the traditional sense. However despite this family legacy, El Hadj Mamadouba Fofana became involved in commerce. When his grand-son, who was raised in France, visited Guinea for the first time, El Hadj Mamadouba Fofana, in honour of the occasion gave a discourse, inspired by the place and by the uniqueness of this encounter. It lasted several days, an original oral testimony, full of feeling that sought to explain how one lived in Africa and by which moral and social codes. This meeting became a catalyst for the exploration of an African country, a different way of life, and an occasion to discover another side of oneself. El Hadj Mamadouba Fofana, through his clear and poetic oration, leads us into this journey.
