Mon oncle maternel, Joseph Katz, a émigré en Palestine, en avril 1948, un mois avant la déclaration d’indépendance d’Israël. Il portait avec lui l’illusion de la construction d’un État socialiste en Palestine. En 2006, je suis allée en Israël pour le revoir et renouer avec la famille. Trois générations : ce vieil homme, mon oncle, ses filles, leurs enfants. Chacun d’eux a tissé des liens différents avec ce pays où ils vivent et j’ai tenté de comprendre à travers leurs récits ce que cela signifie de vivre aujourd’hui en Israël.

My maternal uncle, Joseph Katz, emigrated to Palestine in April 1948, one month before the Declaration of Independence of Israel. He bore the illusion of building a socialist State in Palestine. In 2006, I went to Israel to see him and take up with my family again. Three generations : this old man, my uncle, his daughters and their children. Each of them tied different links with this country in which they live and through their stories, I tried to understand what it means to live in Israël nowadays.
