"Kubita" is a musical comedy about torture played by real victims in a field outside the prison where they are unjustly detained. Before a changing audience of school children, farmers and soldiers, we follow the prisoners as they develop a series of grotesque scenes that take on violence in unexpected ways. How can you force someone to confess something they never did? What is the cruellest form of torture you can come up with? What will a raped girl sing to forget her pain? "Kubita” plunges the viewer right into the heart of the creative process. At first we see the director guide the prisoners through the improvisations, reassuring someone when the memory of past event becomes too painful and inciting another to give free rein to their rage. Gradually, the prisoners take over the scene, performing a ritual of personal liberation. Society as whole is called up to witness the prisoners' stories and bear responsibility for the indifference that still surrounds them.
