Un homme, son art, son époque, son héritage. Né en 1818, Marius Petipa, danseur français exilé en Russie en plein milieu du XIXe siècle romantique, devient maître de ballet à la cour des tsars. C’est là qu’il donnera, pendant cinquante ans, jusqu’à sa déchéance en 1903, ses lettres de noblesse à la danse classique. Grand chorégraphe, il crée les grands ballets : La Bayadère, Le Lac des cygnes, La Belle au bois dormant ou La Fille du pharaon.

A man, his art, his era, his heritage: born in 1818, Marius Petipa—a French dancer exiled to Russia at the height of the romantic 19th century—became a ballet master in the Tsar’s court. There, for 50 years until his decline in 1903, Petipa would make his mark in ballet.
