"How do you film something you can't see? The realm of spirits and the rituals associated with the transition from life to death - and maybe to a new life in a different form - is an intense field for a filmmaker to deal with. Especially when one is outside one's own cultural sphere. Lapü (which in the local dialect describes a distinctive way of existing) is shot in the Wayuu matriarchy in the Colombian la Guajira desert, where it is customary to bury one's deceased twice. First temporarily, before later digging up the bones, cleaning them and finally placing them somewhere else to rest. A process, which the young shaman Doris has to carry out, supervised by the tribe's wise elders. In sensory, dreamy images and accompanied by a multilayered sound design, which reminds us of filmmakers such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Pedro Costa, we become witnesses of the ceremony - and gradually also of the spiritualistic world that opens up to her."
